It has been a month of reflection and planning at Wilcox Technologies. Now, I would like to detail our more noteworthy achievements:
Our lead engineer spent the first week of December at the annual AdélieCon. There was a significant amount of progress made in various initiatives around the Adélie Linux project, including bootstrapping, toolchain, and planning for the next releases.
We discovered and fixed issues in the Linux kernel around support for big-endian Power systems. These fixes are presently being prepared for submission upstream.
We assisted in the planning and construction of the new Adélie Linux Discord server. We are excited to announce that we are working on our own Discord server as well, and plan to provide more regular updates via both Discord and Patreon in addition to our blog.
We are presently investigating solutions for bringing easy-to-use Linux environments, including Adélie, to new hardware targets. This includes Windows RT tablets, the Wii U game console, and more. We are planning to set up dedicated channels in our Discord for those interested to track those efforts and more.
2025 Goals
We are still in the planning phase of setting our goals for 2025. Many of our goals will require additional financial support from the community, to ensure that the work is done properly and with the care and dedication required.
Some of the goals we have for 2025 include:
- Scaly: upstreaming all relevant and necessary patches to systemd for musl libc support.
- Espresso: a bootable image, and software repository, for running Adélie on the Wii U with full support for all three CPU cores.
- Newveau: at least one fully functional generation of Nvidia card on big-endian hardware.
- Deltoid: a bootable image, and system repository, for running Adélie on big-endian Arm64.
- Platinum: an updated release of Auctions for iOS platforms.
These initiatives, and so many more that we want to provide to the community, can only be realised with the support of people like you. If you are as excited as we are about seeing these ideas become real, please support us on Patreon or GitHub Sponsors. With your help, we will take the Libre Software ecosystem to new heights.
