September 2024 Progress

It has been a month of steady progress at Wilcox Technologies.  We have found solutions to long-standing bugs bootstrapping Java, made progress on Linux init systems, and worked to make the Adelie Linux installation system more user-friendly.  Now, I would like to detail some of our more noteworthy achievements:

We continue to work with our partners Gentoo Linux and Burkhardt Technical Services to create a reliable path to bootstrapping Java runtimes from source.  Our lead engineer has written an article on solving one issue that remained unsolved for over 17 years.. until we tackled it and corrected it.

We added a Sitemap feature to the open-source application that powers our Web site.  We hope that others find these new features as useful as we have.

We have launched a presence on LinkedIn.  Now you can follow us on LinkedIn and reach out to us when you want to take advantage of one of our many consultation services.

We continue to work on our project bringing systemd to the Adelie Linux project and the musl libc ecosystem.  We have already submitted some merge requests upstream which are in various phases of completion.  We are excited to work across the Linux ecosystem to bring user choice to everyone and look forward to continued work in this space.

We worked with our friends at Gentoo Linux and their community to triage an issue with OpenRC on big endian computers which has been fixed successfully.  We additionally provided them with notes on our experience porting Adelie Linux to 64-bit time representation as they prepare their distribution for the time64 switch.

We made many user-facing enhancements and fixes to the Adelie Linux installer system, Horizon.  Many of these were the result of the feedback of Adelie users and reviewers, and we thank them for their input!  These improvements should be available in the Beta 6 release of Adelie Linux.

All this important work on open source, serving the commons of the world, is only possible with the support of people like you.  If you want to be a part of changing society for the better through Libre Software, please support us on Patreon or GitHub Sponsors.  Your support helps us to carry out impactful work for the greater good of the Linux community.
