January 2025 Progress

It has been a month of achievement at Wilcox Technologies.  We have worked on Linux kernel improvements, streamlining business processes, and more.  Now, I would like to detail our more noteworthy achievements:

We found that our past few months of Progress articles were not posted due to a technical glitch.  WordPress has always been temperamental software.  We have fixed that issue and hope to share more news with you, on a faster cadence, moving forward.

We have identified two issues in the Power architecture port of the Linux KVM vrtualisation platform.  Detailed articles detailing root cause analysis, and upstreaming of the patches we have been testing, will be coming later this month.

We have worked with our accountant to complete our year-end tax and financial statements.  We have also prepared our 2024 Public Benefit Statement.  Public statements will be uploaded to our Web site shortly, and we will post when this is complete.

We identified and fixed a few issues in the Adélie Linux kernel configuration for 32-bit PowerPC systems.  New media is now available which allows booting on more G4 models.

We submitted a patch to the musl libc to add support for Power10 HWCAP bits.

We are pleased to share that our engineer Anna Wilcox was recognised in The Register’s coverage of Adélie Linux’s 1.0-BETA6 release for her work on the Adélie Linux system and the systemd-on-musl project.

We worked with a developer on the Adélie Discord server to identify and fix an issue in the SCSI emulation of 86Box.  Submission of this fix will also commence later this month.

We have contributed a fix to the pkg-config-rs Rust crate to improve robustness and ensure error conditions are reported in an actionable fashion.

There are a great number of announcements we are looking forward to, including the public launch of our Discord space, progress on our 2025 goals, further movement on musl libc support in systemd, and our expansion into new markets.

Our work is made possible by the support of the Libre Software community.  Please support us on Patreon or GitHub Sponsors if you are able.  Also, reach out if you are facing an issue with an open-source project that you need assistance fixing.  We can make a brighter future together.
